As of August, 19th 2020, tourists from the following countries are allowed to go to Costa Rica:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malt, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Uruguay.

As of September, 1st 2020, tourists from the following USA states will be allowed to travel to Costa Rica:

Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Vermont

Tourists must comply with some requirements:

  1. Having done the Covid-19 PCR Test and obtained a negative result within 48 hours maximum prior to travelling to Costa Rica. The test result must be in English or Spanish.
  2. Having a valid insurance for international travellers that covers medical expenses due to Covid-19 for at least $50,000 and $2,000 for expenses of extended lodging due to the pandemic. Certification from the policy issuer must be in English or Spanish. If travellers do not have such covering, they can get an insurance online from the Costa Rica National Insurance Company (INS) at: https://cotiza.ins-cr.com/frmDatosIncluir.aspx?P=431
  3. Having filled the online “Health Pass” form at: https://salud.go.cr
  4. Travellers coming from the USA must prove through their driver’s license that they live in one of the six states mentioned above.

 

The access to the country is based on where the traveller has been in the last 14 days, without distinction of their nationality.

On their way to Costa Rica, travellers can’t connect through countries which aren’t part of the authorised countries list.
